      The player that shocked me the most about 25 years ago was Ole Gunnar Solskjær. This Norwegian has a really strong Manc Accent that you don't expect any foreign player to have. Both Manc & Scouse accents sound really strange on foreign players. I've lived in South England most of my adult life, but if I go back to Manchester for longer than a month, I will have my Manchester Accent again.

      Szczęsny impresses me a lot because he not only has the accent nailed but also the mannerisms, filler words, pace of speech, etc. that usually only native speakers have.

      I remember watching a lot of Inter Milan games back when Christian Vieri was banging in goals left, right & centre. Thought he was Italian through and through, then one day I saw him being interviewed and he was basically Joe Mangel from Neighbours. Was not expecting fluent Australian. Strewth mate, fair dinkum!

      Broadly speaking there are two kinds of people. Those that over time pick up the accent from where there are at and those that will speak the same way forever.

      Takehiro Tomiyasu has also changed his English accent after spending so much time at Arsenal. You can see how he spoke English when he was first announced as a new Arsenal player and more recently.

      I'm wondering if being constant on social media has to donwith this, because this didn't really happen back in the day. Even with players who spent over a decade over there, you would never hear a Spanish speaker pick up the accent at all.

      Szczesny: 10 out of 10 (perfect – undetectable, grammatically perfect as well)

      Isak: 9.5 out of 10 (virtually undetectable as non-native)
      Amadou Onana: 9.5 out of 10 (virtually undetectable as non-native)
      Eidur Gudjohnsen: 9.5 out of 10 (virtually undetectable as a non-native)

      Musiala: 8 out of 10 (good but there is a German twang on certain words especially when he said "university")
      Raya: 8 out of 10 (good but foreign twang – has a northern pronunciation on most words reflecting his time at Stockport before London)

      Maupay: 7.5 out of 10 (good but a foreign twang)
      Emi Martinez: 7.5 out of 10 (good but a foreign twang)
      Bellerin: 7.5 out of 10 (good but a foreign twang)

      Szczesny's vocabulary is more mainstream accent and standardised with idiomatic expressions.

      Isak, Onana, Maupay, Bellerin and Musiala all speak what is now called MLE or Multicultural London English both in terms of pronunciation but also sentence structure and vocabulary.
