It’s no coincidence that when you try and dominate the ball, switch to the 3-2 build up shape and play forward, Xavi Simons comes alive. Man of the Match displays in the Champions League are exactly what we bought him for, hopefully this can be the catalyst for more consistent performances from him in the league. In this video, Ben Bowman breaks down Tottenham’s resounding 4-0 victory vs Copenhagen in the Champions League discussing why the 3-2-5 in possession structure makes us so much better, why Udogie and Odobert’s relationship is key to this Spurs side and why Randal Kolo Muani should be getting consistent minutes over Richarlison.

  1. Crazy thing is ben, I do think we can beat united but honestly its a 50-50 game, that united attack could literally kill us with the way we build up terrible from the back and leave space, same as how we could beat them with running through their midfield. Depends which team turn up, their attack clear ours if its a open game๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  2. I also really love this set up, especially at home, but the problem for me is that we don't really have the squad to consistently play this way……The likes of Danso, Spence, Palhinha, Tel and Kulu just don't really fit in this system if they're asked to come in and replicate roles.

  3. That was an easy game. Xavi had it too easy, very weak opposition. His assist was only an assist cos the gk was a donkey. When xavi went off we played even better.

  4. How much of the performance though was how bad Copenhagen was? Especially the keeper. And if it was a difference in how we built up, what was our strategy for Chelsea and why do you think Frank chose that strategy vs last night?

  5. It wasnโ€™t a huge tactical tweak.. back 3 in progression we have seen last 2โ€3 matches. biggest difference was Udogie and Odobert starting and weak opposition where they didnโ€™t press us and give us space .

  6. The big difference is that Copenhagen played like a league 2 club with no pressure…. When Xavi Simons can have the ball for 5-10 second without anyone pressure him , then he is fantastic but as soon as he gets pressure he his rubbish…. He needs to learn how to ๐Ÿ’ฌ what to do before he gets the ball and what he needs to deliver it. He is going to struggle on Saturday against Man United. Loose the ball โšฝ 5-10 times and give away really shity passes ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  7. The variance in performance versus teams as bad as Copenhagen and even top 12 teams in the league is incredibly large.

If we get Chelsea, Bournemouth type performances against United and Arsenal then Spurs have a confidence problem and that lies squarely on Frank.

  8. Personally love watching Bentancur link-up plays. He's not the best midfielder in terms of tackles or interceptions but I feel as though his ability to move attacks forward is underrated.

  9. We were given time and space letโ€™s see on Saturday but Simonโ€™s looked well pissed off after being substituted again udogie makes a huge difference down the left but starting the game in a more advanced set up helps.
