Up the Villa, Pau is a better option, but last night , first half Villa were 100% quicker, slick passing, far more passion, tackling, completely different, bar Mr Rodgers ! The one thing in his favour, is that he does a lot of running off of the ball . Second half Villa went back to the norm this season, and I haven’t started about Watkins. I wonder if the bad eggs in the dressing room were left out of the starting team last night ? Martinez, Mings, Watkins, Digne, ? Watkins has to look at himself properly, last night Malen performed much better.
Pau is our best centre back for playing from the back for excellent ball progression forward the only concern is he is terrible against teams that play fast and direct into the box in one and one defending but yeah definitely starts our european games and possession based opposition
Nope. I disagree. Bologna played high pressing and left alot of space. Premier League clubs have not done this against us this season, alot of games have been low block. Where we struggle. I love him in European games tho.
I’ve always said he’s one of our best players. Is he a great defender? No. But if he was, he wouldn’t be playing for us would he, considering his incredible passing skills. It’s give and take.
It's not a coincidence that the Villa qualified for the Champions League without Mings, slows the game down so much with a million touches before he passes the ball 5ft sideways or hoofs it up the pitch and out of play. Torres and Konsa is our best partnership by a million miles, we need to move on from the old guard.
People saying he isnt a great defender dont understand what makes him great. The way he keeps our backline and plays the offside is top class. Have him and Mings change against Brentford last, and their goal would have been offside. Mings sleeping and not pushing out. Pau is amazing on the ball, and even though Mings are a faster and a better duel player he offers nothing else.
Agree with this. However, against teams that are very quick, Pau is susceptible to being left in the dust trying to recover. The solution may be to not play Digne with Pau. Play Digne with Mings. Maatsen needs to play with Pau. There really is no denying how good Pau is passing the long and intermediate balls.

Good player loads of ability and reads the game well but unfortunately he is to slow, premier league teams will exploit that weakness👍
