Coyld you please link where i can get the spool? Thanks rawr
I use braid on my daiwa alphas setup using 6lb sufix nanobraid with a 4lb flouro leader with fg knot. I may go 1 step further and make a dedicated trout setup with my 2019 alphas ct setup. You can get more distance with that trout magnet if you spooled a bit less line and used those japanese 3 lb sunline small game braid but those lines are super expensive.
If you know your gear then do what you like. I actually thought braid was the one that damages light spools because it has no stretch. I don't use braid because tying a leader onto thin braid is difficult and most of my rods have micro guides and the knot barely passes through the tip.
Hey mate, how are you getting these in the states? I can't find any of these sub $100 on US Amazon, and UK Amazon.
New discoveries come with testing both line and rods with every reel. The possible reason the heavier lures lost casting distance from previous tests is the lure weight was too heavy for the rod action. The rod was unable to cast the lure because it has too light of action. A more powerful action fitted for the lure weight will improve distance and accuracy.
When you do the test it would be more informative if you measure distance with measuring tape or at least count how many rounds with handle, and to make it even more informative comparison with original spool other reels would be even beter. At the moment all we see is you making cast somewhere in a lake and hear you saying ' oh fantastic, oh amazing,oh..' π . More facts please more accurate information thats what we want π
That's cool bro,now imagine fishing a bfs Thai jump frog,im making them in 3 grams and they look so awesome making the little jumps you have to see it
What pond is it
Nice
I think my okuma ultralight rod and reel cast my trout magnet maybe 15 ft max and thatβs with the wind.ππ Seriously jimmy, how many rod and reels do you have? Must be 100s!!! Anyway canβt wait to watch you catch some trout!
And just a quick question. Did the roro spool come with that bearing? Or do you need to purchase it separately?
I keep an old digital scale in my tackle box for those emergencies. Funny thing is, I've weighed more lures on it than the weed I originally bought it for.
I bet there's spool of line rolling all over the place like last time.π€£
Very impressive Jimmy. Being able to cast Trout Magnets (1 g) was my BFS goal, and some do it with success on small streams, but as long as a rod reel combo can handle 1.5 or 2 g I'm happy, and your setup achieves that goal.
You make it look so easy! if I casted a trout magnet with that setup, the reel would have exploded π π π great video as always π
Good job Jimbo, I was also curious about the mono vs fluoro vs braid on the bfs spools. I've used all with no noticable issues, but I could imagine an issue if you you hook a big hard fighting bass with the drag too high while using mono. Keep up the great videos
Nice vid! I was excited when I saw you were there. That's a good pond for π· bluegill and the rare pumpkinseed. Also a good amount of small bass. I usually use live worms but I'm sure a small jig will work good as well. also the smallest gulp! alive minnows.
At 20:07 do you say 'thats a nigga bluegil' . Im not making a value judgement just wondering. Crack up
Can you please link the ceramic ball bearings you used to upgrade the Daiwa Alphas Air TW
"Spool half way filled"; it's better to fill the spool up vs "halfway" because physics says Centrifugal force can be increased by increasing either the speed of rotation [spool tension & brakes] or the mass of the body or by decreasing the radius [fishing line/spool diameter], which is the distance of the body from the centre of the curve.Β
In layman's terms the more centrifugal force generated because of a decrease in the radius [spool line filled] the further lighter lures can go because these factors help them generate more force.
BSF reels are already designed with these principles; large/ wide in circumference shallow spools that are heavily ported. It's all about less friction, less rotational mass and force [loading the rod] and all these things being balanced.
I'm not a Pro but I like science and all the sponsored Pro's have science behind them.βπΎ I love your channel, I'm just getting into BSF from the Ultralight scene.π€πΎ
I think it's stock spool can handle 1gram lure without problem .
I respect your hustle, but I dont think I can afford that reel and will stick to spinning gear for 1/64th and 1/80th, and 1/200th weight lures and jigs for trout and panfish. I also have found that fly fishing for me has filled bfs tremendously for me and can cast tiny weightless size 20 flies with extreme accuracy. But as always, once people have become addicted to bfs, it's hard to get off. π good video
Not to be that guy…. But why are these finesse bait casters so popular when they are super finicky.
done this same setup, never again unless weights were used..
Show me a decked out reel that cab throw under a gram.
