Lionel Messi can only be stopped by “prayer”, according to the advice of Kieran Trippier’s former manager Diego Simeone.
Speaking in the latest episode of ‘Kit Collector’, the ex-Atletico Madrid right-back admits he was told to resort to praying when up against the Argentine icon in La Liga clashes against Barcelona.
The England defender, now at Newcastle United, joins David Vujanić at the Classic Football Shirts shop in London to rate retro kits and discuss some of the highlights of his career that included a memorable stint at Tottenham Hotspur.
The on-form Premier League star reflects on the icons who inspired him as a youngster, including Manchester United legend David Beckham, and the games that defined his career.
Trippier joins the likes of John Stones, Michail Antonio and Bethany England in touring the east London treasure trove of kits for the ‘Kit Collector’ series.
