Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio was injured in the Wolves vs Liverpool Premier League match after a delayed offsides call that resulted in his own teammate striking him in the head. Rui Patricio appears to have avoided major injury in this scary collision but this is another reason why this absolutely must change in the sport. This injury never should have happened and we need a change to how offside is called in football

the offside call isn’t whistled at the end of the play, it can be a bit delayed for a variety of reasons though.
Ik u don’t get much views on football/soccer videos but please keep making videos on the sport 🙏🏼
An American knowing the rules and common sense of football I've said if offside are blatant call it offside dont wait
Bruh all of this just makes me scared to play sport (Australian football, google it if you don’t know what it is)
"There's no reason to have another seemingly uneccessary way that the game's officiated that's only gonna put people at risk of getting hurt."
It's part of the nature of it. Might as well completely overhaul the rules for football, hockey, soccer, rugby, baseball, basketball, wrestling, MMA, etc…
Your knowledge in medicine is only surpassed by your ignorance of this sport. If you were to show that offside portion of your video to someone in England they would likely 1st. cringe at your use of "offsides" (instead of "offside"), and 2nd. inform you that isn't how the call is made. It's from where the pass is kicked that the offside is measured. Your freeze frame is way too late in your first minute. Your freeze frame at 5:45 is when the call is made. All out sprinting (attempting to keep pace with Salah), the line judge is barely in line but in great position. But can he see Coady, who is blocked by Salah? Can he see his feet, knees, and shoulders in full? Any of which could play Salah on. Unfortunate take because you don't understand the rules yet. Hope you have since learned!
First of all, i agree that clear offsides should be called in time, as those, and many other risky clashes happens midgames, not only in this way, but also potential leg breaks, knee injuries
But this one weren't as clear in real time as the paused frame and angle misleads into conclusion (thought not the harder to call) Actually, this one weren't even the most clear call that weren't made in real time that proceded a hard clash in this game (thankfully not any injury there, but still the same problem)
Excellent video — production editing, interesting sports medicine knowledge, utilizing cool 3-D imagery, and advocacy for safety and penalty enforcement. I think American football (NFL) and Global football (Soccer) officials need to rigorously enforce penalties to thwart player incentives to violate rules in the name of “competitiveness”.
I truly appreciate your opinión over the offside and other FIFA rules in football. Anyways, great channel. I"m a Third medical student from Honduras, greetings! 🙂
Why do them have head injury first Raul jimienez and now RUI PATRICO
The whole point of the rule is to give benefit of doubt to the attacking player. If the linesman is unsure if he was offside then he has to let play go on
im just waiting for a jamal murray knee injury video from tonight’s Warriors Nuggets game.
Random LOL where are your shirts from? They’re so nice!
This angle is useless to check any offside penalties. A player can only be ruled offside if there is less than two players between him and the endline when the balls LEAVES THE PASSER'S FOOT. So you can't rule a player offside just by looking at the player receiving the ball. You can receive the ball in a "offside" position and not draw a penalty, as long as the ball is passed to you before you get "offsided" by the defense. (Yes, some defensive schemes they will purposefully run forward just before a pass to draw a penalty)
Removing that rule won't solve the problem
It jst creates more problems
I am from the UK and have played football all my life and they changed the offside rules because of the technology in place now. The linesmen would get decisions wrong and it would infuriate teams, so goal line and offside technology known as VAR was brought in and they allow play to continue in case they are onside and then the goal can stand. I know it seems stupid and trust me, VAR has caused lots of debates but the reasoning behind it is sound. I do understand and agree with what you are saying though and most purists like myself don’t want VAR, just trust a human being
I had something like this when I played goalie for my college soccer team. I had a collision with the one player who brought his knee up. It hit me square in my neck on my left side. I continued the rest of the game though but it was very stiff. After for the next 2 or so weeks my right side muscles was sore. Our team physician helped quite a bit but I think I got lucky with that injury.
You know that its soccer and that he's faking , right?
An actual soccer injury for once.
Yea I hate it, when the call is obvious no reason to wait, it needs to be called
Patricios friend SpongeBob is very sad
linesmen don't have whistles, only a flag. And they don't always wait untill the end of "play". The linesman can flag the offside but you still have to wait for the reff to blow to stop it.
Great video! Just a couple of quick notes: the offsides in soccer used to be called right away, however, with the introduction of VAR, the refs/linesmen now wait until the play is over to call it and review it if necessary (usually only in cases when a dangerous play is happening). That's why now it's not called right away, again this is a very recent change and definitely needs to improve as this sort of plays are now more bound to happen with defenders in hot pursuit of the attackers, eventually we will hopefully have sensors/cameras that will detect the offside instantaneously or, at least, in a quicker fashion so the ref can be alerted by the VAR earlier.
In terms of the offside itself and why the VAR is so important for them is that, in soccer, the offside happens when the pass is made, i.e. when the ball leaves the foot of the player passing the ball (and not when the attacker receives the ball). In this moment, the recipient of the pass must have 2 players between him/herself and the net (usually one is the GK and the other is a defender). Basically, the linesman must be able to determine when the pass is executed and right away look at where the attacker receiving the ball is located to see if there is an offside (before the ball reaches the attacker). There are a few more intricacies but these are the basics. So, if a pass is being made from the other side of the field it can be hard to determine what players may be in an offside position at the moment and whether the ball will reach one of those players. This case is a bit more straightforward as the passer and the receiver are actually quite close but the play is happening fast so there is always a little margin for error.
Unfortunate and I hope we can definitely improve the technology or the rules as I'm all for less errors and more justice in the game but we can't sacrifice the health of the players in the process.
Thing is it‘s not directly being called because one var and two if they call it the players stop playing and mistakes could happen where an offside is called which isn‘t actually offside robbing the attacker of a chance this was just unfortunate but what I do agree with is that obvious offside could be called immediately since it isn‘t a close decision or whatever
You mentioned the oxygen mask and apparatus. Is it possible they are delivering pain meds using a mask, like when they put you under for surgery. I know for sure in Australia they have a device called the green whistle which is used to deliver pain meds via inhalation. I believe it’s also common throughout Europe. What’s your opinion?
By your argument, gridiron football should just end…
