  1. I know a lot of people hated Pepe for his aggression and and for key incidents that are highlighted in this video, but I remember watching those last two "fouls" live, and neither of them looked intentional to me. His intentional fouls are absolutely inexcusable. And the opening clip is a prime example of that. He was actually suspended for a long time after that situation, and was forced to go through anger management treatment.

That said, and this may sound controversial, but I've always admired Pepe as a a player. I'm not saying his intentional fouling is right in any way, but I do think they were extremely few and far between, yet people who didn't watch Real Madrid on a regular basis remember them and associate him with those few incidents that mostly occurred in the El Clasico.

As a player, Pepe was a warrior. He was strong, fast, and in my opinion, one of the very best defenders in the world in his late 20s. Both him and Ramos have had isolated "moments of madness" in their careers, but they also played with so much grit and dedication to their cause, and I think they're a dying breed of defenders in that regard.

I value sportsmanship as much as anyone else, yet I think the game i increasingly favoring a more soft approach to defending, and it enables more play-acting and a favorable environment for offensive players. The guy who Pepe lashed out on at the beginning of the video, was simulating fouls and verbally taunting Pepe in the lead up to that outburst, but it will forever be remembered as Pepe just being a mad man for no reason lol.

  2. Well, to be fair, after a few years Pepe really became a normal defence, and in one season he was the defender with less yellow cards in La Liga playing a lot of matches
