  1. Strange seeing us go so far backwards , when we have a fully professional league, good development system etc When the NSL collapsed , this appeared to force younger players to leave early and get out of their comfort zone in a sink or swim environment. Now we have players like perennial benchwarmer Ryan, whom I have never rated as a keeper, as our captain? Ryhan Grant, who wouldn't make it in a English championship team and Duke? Some A-league clubs wouldn't want him. This team is one of the worst oz teams I've seen in my 30 years watching them. tbh I wouldn't want this team to qualify for the WC anyway, we would be the luahging stock of the cup.

  2. It's not like Arnold had Kewell, Viduka and Lazaridis to play. Bunch of C graders against a very good Japanese team.

  3. The truth is Australian football as a whole has failed to develop young players good enough to replace the Golden generation players.. It's easy to blame the coach and sacrifice him to make everyone feel that they have made a corrective decision.. But that does not change the quality problem we now have with Australian players as a whole.. The lack of strikers of world class quality is clear.. We have an A league dominated by foreign strikers.. You cannot expect Australia to progress when we do not have anyone at the level of a Viduka or a Kewel..

  4. Maybe I'm blind but I thought they played great, high intensity match, heaps of inexperienced players. We defended great. We didn't play perfect but I thought we beautiful football. Yes we were on the backfoot a lot but so we're Japan. I thought we solved out stagnant midfield, defended great and created some good chances.

  5. We seem to have been here before…….we have a habit of agonising about whether or not to sack the manager months out from the WC. Nothing changes.

  6. Our expectations as a country are at odds with the talent level. Graham Arnold needs to be fired . We need to develop our kids better.

  7. You guys have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. The fault lies with the ffa for their years of prioritising money making over producing quality players. Arnold did the best he could with a squad that had no right in terms of quality to be on the pitch with that Japanese team. The ffa took over when our 8th string strikers were better than duke…. funny the ffa employs the coach and thus he can't say anything about them… it's their fault we suck …. he can't say anything about the crap job they've done…… as well having crap sports journalism coming from a place total ignorance is symptomatic of how poor football has gotten in this country

  8. I feel for Graham Arnold, not sacking him was the right thing to do.A lot of people will disagree. He needs to stay as finding a quality overseas coach now would be highly unlikely ,who would want to.He is an Aussie from the old school whether we like it or not.We need to rebuild under him and be patient.
