Nathan Ake BRINGS DOWN Erling Haaland during Man City open training session! 😬🤕⚠️

Manchester City held a special ‘double’ training event with the women’s squad at their Joie Stadium, with summer signings Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and goalkeeper James Trafford all taking part on Tuesday.

During the training, Bernardo Silva told fans he was “very proud” to be named Manchester City captain, but acknowledged it is a “big responsibility”.

The Portuguese midfielder was given the armband following the departures of Kyle Walker to Burnley and Kevin De Bruyne to Napoli in the summer.

The 30-year-old is also optimistic about his side’s upcoming campaign.

“We’re very motivated for the new season. I think that a lot of good things are coming. We’re working very hard to give the fans something that they deserve: titles again,” he said.

Silva is the first captain manager Pep Guardiola has appointed in a 17-year coaching career – previously he has allowed his players, at City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, to vote on who wear the skipper’s arm band.

Guardiola said the aim for his City side this season is to “challenge ourselves and do our best” as the club tries to put an indifferent – by recent standards – 2024-25 campaign behind them.

City finished third in the Premier League behind Arsenal and Champions Liverpool, were beaten in the FA Cup final by Crystal Palace and went out of the Champions League in the knockout phase play-offs at the hands of Real Madrid.

There was one nervous moment during a practice match when Erling Haaland was caught late by a slipping Nathan Ake.

After a brief delay and limp away, the session resumed and the Norwegian striker also went to greet fans and sign shirts at the end of the training.

City play Palermo in Italy on Saturday in a friendly match before their Premier League season begins on 16th August with a visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They then entertain Tottenham Hotspur and visit Brighton before the end of the month.
