Manchester CIty manager Pep Guardiola, whose side moved back up to second and closed the gap on leaders Arsenal last night to five points, claimed Erling Haaland is still not back to his best.

Guardiola said Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund for ยฃ52.1m in June, has not fully recovered from a foot injury sustained in his side’s goalless Champions League draw against his former club in October.

โ€œI have the feeling he is not at his best,โ€ Guardiola added. โ€œIt is a matter of time. Always an incredible threat for the opponent.

โ€œOf course we are delighted, but that little (bit of extra) pace he had at the beginning of the season, he struggles a little bit.

Guardiola has also joked that “sexy” Kalvin Phillips has the “perfect body” after revealing last week the England midfielder was overweight.

Phillips was named on the bench for City’s 3-1 win at his former club Leeds on Wednesday night after he was left out of their Carabao Cup squad in last week’s win against Liverpool.

Guardiola said after the fourth round win: “He is not injured. He arrived overweight (from the World Cup). He didn’t arrive in the condition for the training sessions and to play.”

  1. Phillips needs to move clubs because if he wants to play regularly. He needs to find a club that he can fit in its good to have competition but at the end of the day you needs to play

  2. Harry Kane should have gone to City…he would not have got as many as this lad, but he'd still had a bag full. Providing he stays fit, no reason why he can't go past 40, given the service he is receiving especially KDB

  3. Can you see the totally different way this interview would have been presented if United or Liverpool had Haarland and Phillips. It would be all BS about how Ten Hag and Klopp had got everything right and how both player's are now Genius's of the game.
But they play for City the current Champions and a club that has broke many a record in the last 12 years. They don't like that do they, so throw in the negatives guy's.
Sky and the media can't have City doing better than their darlings. No way, leave it to the media to put a snidey, undermining and negative slant on anything City.
Competing with their darlings is not on, especially when their darling clubs actually pay for their positive PR. How dare City compete.

  4. Isn't Haaland ahead of CR7 at this age for goals? however many CR7 scored he would not have got as many in the prem, Spain is an easy league to score in, sorry, also disappointed in Messi not testing himself at the top level in the Prem, its all money ahead of challenges, very poor

  5. The numbers Haaland is producing at his age is unprecedented. The Premier League, the supposed best league in the world looks like a joke to him at times. The amazing chemistry he has with De Bruyne is also beyond expectations.

  6. Interesting about the young city full back, when Pep simplified his game on his Champions League debut, he was much better. Playing like Kyle doesn't suit him yet

  7. From a Liverpool fan you can't question Haaland's stats. They speak for themselves. With the supply from a midfield like City's the guy will hit record numbers no doubt. At Liverpool we make the best signings we can and hope that in the long term the some of our parts will be enough to challenge again.

  8. Haarland has sooo much more to show. Wait till you see his shots from further out. He did one at 18 which made my mouth drop it was so powerful

  9. Players always tend to hit their peak under Guardiola. Messi, Lewandowski, Aguero, David Silva, Sane, Lahm, etc. He doesn't just get top players, every top team gets top players. He makes them much better than they already are

  10. Guardiola was making a strong statement regarding Phillips calling him out for his condition, he was looking for Phillips to respond and be proffesional. It looks like he's listened so everybody is happy, Kalvin with his sexy body and Pep watching him train well.
Hopefully no more injuries and Kalvin can support Rhodri by playing some games. Happy days blues ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘CTID.

  11. 14 premiership appearances for man city so far this season and he scored 20.goals he cost man city less that grealish did and he scored them scores so his record stands on its pwn

  12. Pep is a bad manager for calling Philips fat, I use to respect him, not no more what image is he giving to kids now they all gonna anxious about their weight, can't believe nothing has been said about this, it is shocking

  13. honestly its haaland v haaland .

he could really get one over kylian if he could get ucl + epl bcoz goals aren't a problem . nobody will even be competing in terms of goals .

overall tho kylian is something else no gas ๐Ÿ’€
