Ajax Humble Celtic 5-1 in Como Cup Thriller.
Celtic were brought back down to earth in dramatic fashion as Ajax stormed to a 5-1 victory in the Como Cup, exposing vulnerabilities in Brendan Rodgers’ side after encouraging wins over Newcastle and Sporting Lisbon.
In a rain-drenched Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, the match began with high intensity. Ajax took the lead through Steven Berghuis in the 16th minute, curling a precise effort past Kasper Schmeichel. Celtic responded brilliantly, with Kieran Tierney’s pinpoint pass releasing Reo Hatate, who squared for Yang to level the score. The Hoops dominated much of the first half and twice struck the woodwork, but couldn’t make their chances count.
The second half told a different story. Ajax captain Davy Klaassen scored almost immediately after the restart, followed by a second from Berghuis after a misplaced Celtic pass. Teenage prodigy Aaron Bouwman made it four with a stunning long-range strike, before Rayane Bounida sealed the rout.
Despite standout moments from Tierney, Yang, and Nygren, Celtic were overwhelmed. Rodgers now faces growing pressure to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
