WIRTZ & FRIMPONG PLANS REVEALED! | Liverpool 5-0 Stoke reaction

Liverpool continued their pre-season preparations with a behind-closed-doors friendly win over Stoke City on Sunday.

A Darwin Nunez hat-trick and goals from Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa saw the Reds run out comfortable victors.

But beyond the goals, there were plenty of interesting takeaways from the game for supporters keen to see how things are shaping up ahead of the new campaign.

Here, Reds reporter David Lynch analyses key talking points, including the use of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, and the plans for the club’s youngsters.

  1. Great analysis David, I must admit, I NEVER thought FSG would give Arne a BLANK cheque!
I know we only got the extended highlights, but one of our mates is on the maintenance and watched the full game, he said they may aswell just give us the title now…and we are STILL looking at Isak and a CB.
Good to see Nunez 4 from 2 games…Wirtz, is definitely what we were talking about us getting another Mane/Bobby/Suarez…I don’t think Nunez will leave. Diaz, has made it known he wants to go to Barca, we paid £40 odd Mill for him, and we’ve made him a lot better so at least a £70 for a start off. I don’t think we’ll sell Nunez. I believe we’ll sell Mo and VVD next season, we were NEVER going to let 3 main players walk out for free…if I’m proved wrong, I’ll hold my hands up…but Arne, beginning to lay his stamp on the squad…
    COYR’s
    Thanks mate,

  2. I want to ask you about your general thoughts on on Ben Doaks and if u think he could slot himself in this team as a salah backup @davidlynch

  3. Is there any news we are signing guehi or any top class defender? because i think we need top defender business end where our form drop off a little bit and we need to change that

  4. Can we please stop with the AFCON thing. Seriously how many games have Salah or Mane actually missed? A couple of 3rd round FA cup they weren't going to play in anyway. Its more than old and shows a european bias

  5. So refreshing to hear a non hysterical analysis on YouTube. Expanding the squad will be essential for this coming season in my opinion. Managed correctly, the youngster Rio will be very special in time..

  6. Personally I would have liked to see Stefan Bajcetic break through as backup no.6, Gravenberch was flogged last season n we were lucky he didn't get injured…Still no real backup….and mcallister is not the answer if we want to retain and win no.7

  7. Hey @davidlynchlfc

What’s our plan with the CB? Seems the Guehi story is dying down 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Love from Zimbabwe

  8. Goalkeeper, defense zone was the "weaker",rather embarrassed.(2024-2025)
    Mac,Grav, Dom huge work.( soul)
Salah god, Gakpo,Darwin, Jota sometimes came.
    PL title,rocky PSG almost.( penalty)
    Then what will happen now?
    Two strong international line.
    One stupid thing.
Florian and Dom always swap each other.
    Wirtz, Szoboszlai,Salah pressure.

  9. A bit surprised David thought Liverpool would want to give Bradley alot of RB minutes and not bring in someone else.

It's clear Arne is ruthless about wanting the best XI possible to win EPL and UCL.

Everybody has to compete now. No favorites.

  10. I still think there's a quality striker in Nunez, he seems too emotional and preseason is showing him relaxed, knowing he is leaving the club and not trying too hard to impress, imo.

I wouldn't bet against him scoring bucket loads at a new club.

  11. @davidlynchlfc thanks for giving us a sense of the formation and rotation this season. I know you, and all of our supporters, are happy to see the club spending big this summer. You've always talked about FSG's disciplined approach to spending and we see it playing out.

  12. Arne Slot might rotate a bit more, but don't expect too much. He always tries to build a consistent squad of no more than 15 or 16 players, supplementing them with regular substitutes in emergencies. He believes in clarity and trust, and history shows he's right. Only on Matchday 1 will you know what his choices will be this year (barring any injuries). Just like last year, he'll still make a few tweaks here and there, but only then will we have clarity.
It's going to be an exciting season with high expectations 😉

  13. David, as much as I like your content and your ideas, I have to say I am utterly unimpressed with your intonation. Your voice is so boring. Try to add some flair, some ups and downs. It’s like an AI from 30 years ago is talking. YNWA ❤❤❤

  14. Amazed some thought Wirtz was brought in to "sometimes do a shift on the left".
If Slot had said that to him, he'd be with Bayern now.

  15. Liverpool need to keep bringing youngsters through. Other elite clubs do it. If Diaz does leave I wouldn’t replace him. Leave the back up space to the youngsters

  16. I notice all 3!left backs are going on tour. Is the thing for the coning season that Robertson will be available as centre-back cover whilst Kostas is seen as perhaps a back-up option for left wing. Chiesa is not going on tour so maybe the idea is to sell him and have one attacker fewer with Frimpong and Kostas occasionally playing in the wing positions and leaving a little space to youth development

  17. One thing I have learnt from watching Slot's team for a year is that there's never just one plan. I think the players we've brought in give us even more flexibility. Will Wirtz play as a 10? Certainly. Will he play different roles too? I'd be fairly confident of that, too.
I also think there's room for Szoboszlai and Mac Allister, they have different strengths and there will be games where Szobo's sheer work rate and movement are more valuable than Macca's skills and vice versa.

  18. I really hate to see the midfield 3 of last season not being 1st choice. Szobo is far more important to the team and it's style than any g-a numbers can tell you. Neither Macca nor Gravenberch deserve to be benched either, so that's a tough one.
Wirtz must play in any case so it's a case of can you fit them all in? With Wirtz in the 10 it's very hard.

  19. sounds mad to say it but I wouldn't be surprised if macca is the midfielder who gives up his place in our new set up, with szobo being moved to the 8 position. that would be the closest thing to a like for like swap to preserve overall team balance. wirtz is clearly the new regista of the team, and is willing to drop deep, so we are not reliant on macca for that kind of work, but the loss of physicality when szobo sits out will become an issue with wirtz , kerkez and frimpong now making up 1/4 of the team. macca though he loves a tackle is not the most mobile nor physically imposing. i for one do also want to see a high press led by szobo, frimpong, kerkez, ekitike and wirtz. monstrous.

  20. as a liverpool fan since i woke up to football in 1988, i cannot remember any season when we seem to just be well, a big club. we are still doing it the liverpool way but on another level. FSG are now our gods 🙂

  21. Anyone worried about 1. Gravenberch being suspended for liverpool's first 3 games and 2. Salah going to afcon over Christmas? Who would you play instead of these players when they're missing?
