The World Cup 2022 in Qatar will be the 12th time that Switzerland appear in the tournament, having made their first appearance in 1934. Despite missing out on the tournament in 1998 and 2002, they returned in 2006 to progress all the way into the knockout stages. In the last two World Cups in Brazil and Russia, respectively, Switzerland reached the round of 16 both times.
Su Director Técnico Murat Yakin (48 años) nació en Basilea es el hermano del mítico Hakan Yakin. Como jugador se inició en el fútbol profesional en el Grasshoppers suizo, para posteriormente jugar en el Stuttgart (Alemania), Fenerbahçe (Turquía), Basel (Suiza), Kaiserlautern y de nuevo el club de su ciudad de origen. Ya como entrenador empezó en el FC Thun de su país, para luego pasar por muchas más entidades de ahí como Luzern, Schaffhausen, Grasshopper y Sion, además de una experiencia en el Spartak de Moscú (Rusia). Desde 2021 está al frente de la selección nacional.
