in theory yes, you can do that, and almost everyone that is above average at soccer knows, dont look at the ball, look at the player. but when you are face to face with a striker/attacker, especially when they are very fast, defending isnt that easy, especially those natural born striker, sometimes they look at different directions before going in the other direction
