Australia qualified for the last 16, accompanying the French national team as a representative of Group D!
Australia actually originates from the continent of Australia/Oceania (OFC). But qualifying for the World Cup through the Asian route qualification (AFC). Once again congrats to our ‘neighbor’ on this one.
Unexpectedly, Tunisia & Australia won the 3rd week of Group D. But alas for Tunisia. They did manage to win against France, although there was drama in the final minutes, Griezmann’s goal in the 90+8 minute was disallowed by VAR for offside. Tunisia beat the defending champions with a score of 1-0, but unfortunately Tunisia could not qualify for the last 16 phase because Australia won against Denmark. Nice try Tunisia!

France 6 points.
Australia 6 points.
Tunisia 4 points.
Denmark 1 point.
Australia fans were seen going wild in the early hours of the morning in Melbourne during their celebrations of Mathew Leckie’s goal which saw Graham Arnold’s side through to the knock-out stages of the World Cup.
The Aussies needed a victory over Denmark to ensure qualification, while France were defeated 1-0 by Tunisia in the other game in Group D
