Managed to watch the whole 90 for this one and I was really impressed with England and delighted to see my boy Anderson doing well. I thought that cross he put in towards the end to give the striker a free header was going to end up in the back of the net. I thought Carsley's team selection was very good and bringing fresh legs in just as the game was starting to get a little strained worked out very well. It's not easy managing minutes at this point at the end of a long season. Really looking forward to the semi now!
This has been a strange tournament but gotta say I’m increasingly being won over by Carsley, particularly given how hamstrung his squad selection has been this tournament (and at late notice too). That and Carsley’s rotation policy has meant we’ve been quite disjointed and profligate between matches, but I can’t argue with looking after player welfare and fitness, and if we are fresher than other teams now then all the better. This Spain game felt like a real vindication of Carsley’s tactics and selection, and I can’t help but be drawn to the more adventurous football we play under him; there were a few brilliantly flowing moves against Spain we rarely see from senior England teams.
