The "something happened" was Eddie signed Isak instead. They thought he was out of reach and pursued Pedro, when they got the green light for Isak they dropped Pedro.

Who cares what other people say, unless Pedro comes out and says he don't want to play for Newcastle, why make a big deal of it. If i went off what everybody says about Newcastle,players in and out etc i would be a wreck. Don't listen to people outside of the club for information.
If a player wishes to live in London instead of Newcastle, that is their right and privilege , it is not for Newcastle United fans or any other club fans to decide where anyone chooses to work and live. I personally would not want to see a player unhappy about where he lives, playing for Newcastle United, and bring disharmony to what appears to be a happy and settled playing staff.
