  1. The Sterling tackle on Dele was a red – nailed on. If there's any chance of consistency breaking out on these decisions, then compare the Sonny red with this one. Absolutely no doubt about it, even if there was no evil intention. Agreed on the Sterling dive. Sterling has lost his confidence, and Aurier was all over him. Winks WAS world class, and if he did this every week, he'd be first on the team sheet. Lo Celso also great. Yes, the stadium was quite quiet. A feeling of inevitable failure and thus of anxiety?

You are right about Berwijn. Terrific work rate on defense, and a stunner of a goal. Nobody sears past Walker, as Spurs fans know better than most. But if he can keep up with Walker, he'll be quick enough. Lloris has abysmally poor distributional skills, but there were many great saves and takes, and particularly the penalty save.

Tanganga IS a giant. He was great in the pre-season games, then had a bad league game early on. But now he's consistently terrific! Eric is my man too. A fighter and a warrior, and we need some. Sessegnon started to come right with Southampton. Dele was indeed the man in that game. Jedson was light on his feet, energetic, creative, fast – a breath of fresh air! But why is Ndombele so slow and ungainly when he runs? Can anyone explain this? The global training program?

Team togetherness has improved. Agree Rose and Eriksen leaving has helped. The rebuilding is taking shape in front of our eyes.

Hope Jan works out. Has everyone forgotten the match last year when he was attacking all the time? Where has that Jan gone. Let's hope he comes back! Much loved by Spurs fans.

    COYS.

  2. Poch would NEVER have played Bergwijn in the Man City game. He would have played him an odd 10 mins here & there in the FA cup, may be. I loved Poch, love him still, but Mour IS a master tactician.

  3. I am very sure Tanguy has some deep muscle issues in his thigh or groin. The gait is of a person having lower core discomfort. I had hip and illio-psoas injuries, and my gait was exactly like that.
Also, do you remember Tanguy taking a tumble in one of the earlier games? He couldn't stop his momentum, and rather than tear his muscles trying to, he let himself fall, stiffly, I might add

  4. Thanks Alasdair, felt sad for Jan, he looked like he was having a melt down. Think it's a good thing for team spirit, that Eriksen & Rose have left. That spirit & determination present even if the performances in last 2 games pretty poor. Shoots of recovery me hopes! COYS

  5. Expect a transformed Spurs after the break, they've had so much to deal with in so little time but have discovered some real grit and when they all become attuned to each other and on song with Mourinho's tactics all of the frustration and disappointment can be channelled to make us a much more potent and unpredictable force capable of turning anyone over. I don't think that this is wishful thinking, we have some exciting new game-changers in the ranks and I feel confident that there is great determination to escape the malaise and gloom which seems to have descended on the club, it's a squad of World class players yet they have been floundering and they can not possibly have really at all happy with the way results have gone, there has to be huge desire to change all of that and we are going to witness it.
Son is just knackered isn't he? He has the look of a bloke who really needed this break when I saw him in the Southampton game-as did a few because they all looked as if they had already played a game that day, gruesome footie, great result-losing that one at home would have been a massive setback but the guys kept on battling and we clawed out the win.
Top 4 looks a lot closer and maybe we will end up having to buy some Silver Polish at the end of the season?
Cheers for these blogs Alasdair, it's like I get the news and chat re:Spurs from other Spurs fan sites and they are great but it's more like "From Our Own Correspondent" on R4 when I listen to yours, always top quality content!
    COYS!!!

  6. I think you reflect how a lot of Tottenham fans feel mate. Despite the fact we haven't been playing well (except in patches) the results have been better than expected. The new signings have got me excited, and the thought of Davies, Kane and Sissoko coming back; surely then we will have a bit of strength in depth.
I admit to being a bit worried about N'dombele, he has shown he is a class act but we are past half way in the season and we've only seen him on a handful of occasions. I accept your point about him still adapting to the PL pace, but I suspect he is another Ledley; his body breaks down under the pressure of hard training. I hope I'm entirely wrong and he goes on to be our midfield maestro.🤞
I would love to see Verts get back to his brilliant best, but I think he is a man who is struggling to keep up with the PL pace as the years advance. I think a year's contract is a fair offer from the club. I hope he comes to see that but if not, well every career comes to an end, and I'm sure he'll get a warm ovation from every Tottenham fan if he chooses to leave.

  7. As I said in last post on this channel, I am very relaxed about all this. The signs were there, half way through the season last year, that the team needed rebuilding. Now if anyone thinks that can be achieved by throwing money at the problem I would refer them to Man United. They have spent a fortune on players since Ferguson left and ended up with a less competitive team.
I also said on here back in September that it is hard to bring youngsters through when you have senior players that want away. I advocated showing Erikson and Rose the door pretty much from the get go this season and now thankfully they're gone. This not only removes their negativity but also gives a clear warning to others that no one is indispensable or can do what they like because they've got a contract.
From when Poch took over it took at least a couple of seasons to have what I would call a solid team. So it's time to get behind the team even when it's not pretty. COYS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Sterling's challenge on Dele was a disgrace and when you consider the VAR man (Kevin Friend) was able to slow the tackle down and see Dele's ankle go into a horseshoe shape under the impact (but the ref only saw it in 'real time') it makes you wonder what VAR is all about, and when your hear people say 'Yeah but he's not that kind of player…' it makes me so mad. His character has nothing to do with it, that tackle could have smashed Dele's ankle to bits. DEFINITE straight red, no question.

  9. You know what, secretly and quietly, I'm quite confident about how we're going to turn out once all our players are fit. The genuine pace we'll have with Tanganga in defence, Ndombele, Bergwijn and Sissoko in midfield, Ben Davies back at left back, a new and improved Aurier (where did that come from?) and with Sonny and Dele posing a real threat and of course, with Kane back and firing, and with Lo Celso causing havoc behind him…I'll say it again, I'm loving what we could become again.

  10. Son Heung-min is knackered. He's played football nonstop for 2 years straight and it shows. He's now relying on little moments in games to make his mark because he simply doesn't have the energy to perform to his normal level for the majority of the 90 minutes like he did last season.

  11. Alasdair i Cant agree with your opinion about winksy having a fantastic game against man city, Surely His job was to get hold of the ball and try and control the midfield and feed the front three, well I dont think he did that at all and hasnt really done it all season. Yes he put in alot of effort and helped out in defence, with a few last ditch tackles, also he wouldnt of made that red card unless he got that shuv, that gave him that extra bit of speed if you look. He not in the team to be a 5th defender! Hes in there to take control of the midfield and he doesnt do it in my opinion.

  12. That was a really fantastic piece you did on terry dixon mate. I had never heard of this guy, but did some research on him after reading your interview and what a player this guy would of and should of been. The world can be a cruel place at times. This guy was Tottenham through and through, not only a spurs player, but also a huge spurs fan and if not for the bad luck this kid had, I think would of been a spurs superstar. So pleased hes in a good place now, such a fighter and deserves every bit of happiness. Thanks for shining a light on this man Alasdair, what a story about a true talent and what could of been.

  13. Jan vertonghen was always physically a beast very quick mobile great technically and he has now lost his legs his 32 don’t mind keeping him but it’s up to him to sign

  14. Perfect summary as always. Was ready on 23 mins to put my reply about the closing of the transfer window and coincidentally has made the team a family once again. To quote Good Will Hunting; "son of a bitch stole my line". Son & Moura, please look Up Sometimes and pass. Both as guilty as each other. Yes results elsewhere have gone our way. But. With fine tuning we are heading in the right direction. Lovely dilemmas for Jose to have. Terry Dixon article insightful and heartbreaking read. Thanks again Alasdair.

  15. FFS Lucas Moura deserves so much more credit than he gets. He is a match winner and has shown it time and time again…in games that actually matter and people write him off because he doesn't run down the flank and cross the ball like a 1990s PL winger.

  16. Whatever mood I am in whatever I am doing a highlight for me is listening to Mr Gold talking football talking Spurs football. His voice is so easy on the ear. His analysis is thoughtful, thought-provoking and helps the fan to firm their own view of a match. Please, please keep these going. They are a joy.

  17. Great post as always Alasdair. I am convinced that Jose is on the right track. He is getting the fundamentals in place, starting with our defending as a team. As far as I can see it is improving with every game. He has had a really tough job since taking over, but loads of positives are emerging. I don’t know whether we will get top four, it could go to the last kick of the last match. What I am 100% convinced of is that with another transfer window, a full pre-season and Kane back from injury that Tottenham will be a force to be reckoned with again next campaign. With three or four new players and Jose’s winning mentality it could be a very successful season that ends in a 1. We need to be patient, our squad was stale, riddled with problems and had lost their way, there are no quick fixes.
We can ignore Merson, he’s an idiot and needs to be reminded that however poor he thinks we are, we’re still six points above Woolwich.

  18. Remember the Dixon hype & it never came into fruition… Very sad… Dislocated kneecap if I recall which is an injury I've also suffered with… Ended his career before it began.

  19. Another great article Alasdair, putting into words and confirming what the rest of us are thinking, with your finger firmly on the pulse. Just read your piece on Terry Dixon too, as you said well worth the read. Thanks

  20. Grateful to you Ally for a video this winter break, always appreciate your analysis here and your written pieces. I must say, though raw, I'm really excited about Gedson. That little flick over the defender was fantastic to see.
Hopefully Son's goals will help with his confidence and ability to finish.
And we've both been saying it Gio is the future and it looks good. I still want to see more pairing of Lo Celso and Lamela.

  21. Hi Alasdair, thank you for your video. I wanted to ask if you could give your thoughts on Foyth and his current progress. I see him in training videos and on the bench but no minutes lately. He is such an exciting prospect (he was lethal in that bayern game). He has a lot of grit for his age. Those legs are a wonder of their own! Please let me know your thoughts on Foyth and where you could see him? CB , RB , ( DM? )

Thank you. Soccer Couple watching you from NYC!

  22. Excellent, balanced comment. So refreshing. As for the article about Terry Dixon, that is a MUST READ. One of our own and so pleasing to see him coming to terms with a life that may not have lived up to expectations, but is a life that will yet be fulfilling. Good luck to you Terry.

  23. Recently subscribed to your channel and I have to say it was worth it. Great analysis of the game and individuals. No crap, just straight talk. Real nice to put my feet up with a cuppa and just listen.
Keep up the good work 👍🏾👏🏽
