Frenkie de Jong’s relationship with his own club has been a bit strained at times. There have been moments where Barcelona have been openly trying to sell him, asking him to accept an offer from Manchester United, and he has even been booed and heckled by Barcelona supporters as recently as this season.

However, as the season has rolled on, especially with Marc Casado’s injury, de Jong has become an integral cog in Hansi Flick’s tactics, as well as a leader in this very young squad, helping them to where Barcelona have won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and Supercopa (domestic treble). It’s improved things to the point where Frenkie de Jong signing a new contract with Barcelona is more likely than a Frenkie de Jong transfer!

  1. I still want the club to sell him. His salary is ridiculous and his transfer fee will be a big help to boost the team. We need reinforcements in the back and the forward position.

  2. Dutch and Germans nowadays have a very brotherly relationship, it's only during sports games that we get competitive, and even then we tend to be good sports regardless who wins.

  3. He is also the most important player for the Dutch national squad as well. Always the first on the team sheet and we play 30% better when he is on. The whole national team is centered around him… a defensive midfielder… That's how good he is.

  4. Dominant??? Bruh, I've watched you from the very beginning but please. Pedri IS dominant. Busquets WAS dominant at FDJ's position.

FDJ? He's very good to good…nothing more. Certainly not dominant. Our team's not the same without 3 players: Balde, Pedri & Lamine. We were ok when FDJ was out injured. But we limped to the finish line without Balde & lost games without Lamine. I can't even imagine what would've happened without Pedri.

Again, no hate towards FDJ but he's not dominant. Love your content.

  5. I have been a massive fan of Frenkie for years. With the contract situation and injury I did empathies with him, but I had a feeling it just wasn’t going to work out and I’m glad he is doin so well. He is such a good player with great qualities I always saw and I hope he stays

  6. Flick has been delightful for us this season. Its not only FDJ but Balde Pinha Inigo switched to another gear this season thanks to Flick.

I was one of his haters coz he was seen as more of a liability on the same line as Fati.

Now he's changed for the better.

    Fati on the other hand….

  7. Frenkie is the absolute most annoying player to watch of the whole squad. No quick movement of the ball, slows down EVERY possession, defensively is non-existent, and the only reason ppl like him is bc when he has the ball he retains it more than anyone giving the false illusion he's busy with the ball. Pedri, Raphinha, Yamal have all been visibly annoyed when theres a transition and everyone starts running but Frenkie instead of passing it to anyone making the runs he decides to run himself with it

Only ppl who dont know ball thinks he's good. Cant wait for Bernal and Casado to come back and release thus club from Frenkke's chains

  8. I still dont think he deserves the wages he gets, they are simply way too insane for a player of his lvl and barcelona especially, if he wants to lower his wages barca should keep him but if not i think united who sees them as a target could pay a big amount for him (they paid 100m for antony even if de jong doesnt get this much he will surely give barca 40-60m)

  9. Been in the game so long Frankie de Jong has become a veteran that can lead the youngsters 🫠

Actually crazy he’s 28 now, he used to be that kid that helped stomp Real Madrid in the Ucl with de ligt and those other Ajax players.

    Man

  10. As an Ajax fan, one of the first thing I noticed when Frenkie was settling in Flick's system is that Flick is most likely the only coach who has studied Frenkie's play at Ajax and fitted the midfield to his strengths. He is a quick, fit, agile, skillful but most importantly an intellectual player. He is pretty much unpressable and almost always has a solution going forward which progresses Barca's play much quicker. Combine this with the creative mastermind of Pedri and a hardworking attacking midfielder who can produce runs which simultaenously create pockets of space for De Jong to run into or Pedri being able to make a decisive pass. The setup at Ajax was closely the same with Schöne being the creative player who can play through passes to break defensive lines and the hard working midfielder being Van de Beek.
Defensively, because of the pressing nature of the team combined with the high back line, the space each player has to defend is minimized and that's also playing in the strengths of an intelligent player like De Jong.

  11. De Jong is possibly the only player from that dream Ajax side that has thrived, always showing his class when fit. Toxic fans never help the narrative, but hey… my Arsenal team will take him 😂

  12. I've never got along with any fellow barca supporter negatively critical of FDJ. Those fans suffer from selective amnesia, recency bias and severe dilusion because frenkie has never been bad for us. NEVER. And no one can convince me otherwise. I mean, Pedri is good but when he's next to frenkie, he's better. The whole team benefits from his presence that's why he was one of the first players Flick was quick to praise yesterday after we won the tittle. It's just that people focus on the flashy guys like yamal, rapha or the goalscorers like lewy.

  13. As Barcelona fan i always loved our Master Frankie De Jong he is the engine of this team ❤💙 I was ashamed how they tried to sell him to United like what were they thinking there are no players currently playing can replace Frankie

  14. I love Frenkie. I'll be honest, a couple years ago I head Man U wanted him for over 100M, and I wanted him to get sold. That was good money for us, and I didn't feel he fit our playstyle. But nonetheless, Frenkie is criminally underrated. I will keep saying this, he's undeniably one of the best midfielders in the world right now. He's a class midfielder. His G/A doesn't do him justice, but his work rate is phenomenal, and he's an all round great player.

Glad to see him redeem himself, and finally get the recognition he rightfully deserves. Him and Pedri are a dangerous duo

  15. I'm feeling justified for buying a De Jong jersey 2 years ago 😂 I won't lie, I also criticised him a lot last year and wanted him gone, but he has really proved the haters wrong. He has silently been a midfield machine. Flick really is getting the best out of every player.

  16. De Jong is still ass, idk where people get this. De Jong next to any other midfielder not named Pedri has not worked. He can’t dictate tempo meaning he doesn’t know when to speed up or slow down the game. Gets caught sleeping in defense, at least Casado, Eric and Gavi can defend. I guarantee he still is the first player on the chop block to make way for new signings.

  17. The only problem about him is his enormous wage😂 But then again, it's not his fault if he was given a 350K/week salary😂 Everybody will accept and be reluctant to decrease the amount in the future.

  18. The previous board under Bartomeu gave him a 350,000 pounds per week salary, he is the highest paid player on the team. Laporta tried to extend his deal with a lower wage but he refused, so the board tried to sell him.
Any sensible club would have done the same. I don't know why Barca was vilified like this for trying to become economically sensible.
